When I first began this iteration of TheKitchenBlog, a little over a month ago, I wrote that I was going to talk about SEO (Search Engine Optimization). So far I have talked about almost everything but… so this afternoon, while the day is winding down around me, here is another tidbit of information.
Google is a business. Businesses exist to make money. Therefore, if Google told the world how its proprietary algorithms work, no one would need to spend money on the Google AdWords program. Not to mention we would all know how to be the first listing – so who would be first?
…and why Google and not Bing or Yahoo! For the 4 weeks ending 6/20, Google has 74.19% of the search volume – that’s up from the week earlier.
There are a number of considerations you should take seriously in your attempts to make it to the top of Google. These are things we know will help with placement, despite our ignorance of the algorithms themselves. And remember, these are subject to change at Google’s whim.
Today the list… in coming days the explanations.
- Keywords – and their synonyms
- Keyword Density
- Meta Tags – Keyword, Description, Robot, GoogleBot
- Page Titles
- Domain Names
- URLs and Site Structure
- HTML Tags – Heading, ALT
- Links – Anchor Text, Inline, Incoming
- Navigation Structure and Technologies
- Robot Files
- Site Maps
