Kitchen Marketing

Keyword density refers to how many times a given keyword is used within the text of a particular webpage.  It is one of the elements you need to consider when looking for higher Google rankings.  There is no magic number that will guarantee a higher placement in Google, rather it is dependent upon your particular industry and of course the words by which you want to be found. 

Since this blog is for the kitchen and bath professionals, I went to Google and typed in “cabinetry”.  The first organic (unpaid) listing was for KraftMaid, the second for Merillat.  I clicked on the KraftMaid link (by the way KraftMaid, music on a website may seem “cool” but it is really very annoying – especially if you’re listening to Hot Tuna when your website interrupts, but I digress).  Anyway I cut and pasted the URL in a Meta Tag Analyzer (http://www.hypergurl.com/form.html) to find out the keyword density for that page.

• The word “cabinets” was found 8 times; 4.19% of the words
• The word “cabinetry” was found 4 times; 2.09% of the words

I did the same with the Merillat page…

• The word “cabinets” was found 5 times; 1.94% of the words
• The word “cabinetry” was found 4 times; 1.55% of the words

Third was Thomasville Cabinetry

• The word “cabinets” was found 11 times; 2.63% of the words
• The word “cabinetry” was found 2 times; .48% of the words

Since I typed in “cabinetry” the order of the results holds true to the Keyword Density theory.  Assuming different results if I typed in “cabinets” – I tried it.  The order was the same – almost – Thomasville Cabinetry moved from third to fourth place!  I tried the singular version “cabinet” and the number one listing was www.RoyalCabinet.com (which pleased me, as they are a client and cabinet is a keyword).  Merillat was #7, while the other two didn’t register. 

Why?  It makes no sense!   Correct!   The lesson learned…

SEO is an inexact “science” – actually it’s an ever-evolving “art” and Keyword Density is only one of over a dozen elements to consider when optimizing your website.
